El Grande Spa: Your Budget-Friendly Neighborhood Spa
If you’re an avid spaholic like me who’s perpetually on the lookout for a great spa experience at a bargain, then read on. I’ll share my latest review in a bit and I hope after reading this post, it will convince you to try it one of these days.
To anyone who has ever taken the Mabolo-Mandaue City route, you might have seen El Grande Spa on the second floor of Express Inn right beside Andok’s Mabolo.
I see them all the time whenever I pass by this hotel but I never bothered to drop by until today. Because today is the day that I felt like pampering myself for no special reason whatsoever. I just went there to get some spa lovin’.
El Grande Spa Happy Hour Promo
I went to El Grande Spa on an extremely hot and humid afternoon. So you ask, why would I be there at such time of the day?
Well, that’s no accident because they are promoting their “Happy Hour” Promo from 10AM until 5PM. Their 1 hr. full body massage is only P100.00.
Isn’t that amazing? Most of the regular body massage I know would probably retail around P200-P500 so this is definitely a good deal I can’t refuse.
You have the option to choose if you’d like to use oil or dry. The receptionist explained that this is only for their basic full body massage which is a combination of Swedish and Shiatsu massage. They have no promo for their other spa services, though.
Since an hour of massage is simply not enough for me sometimes, I chose to to add another 30 minutes to my session for an oil massage which is only P150.00. Not bad, right?
Average Spa, Pleasant Service
By average, I mean that this is not at par with the usual mid-range spas you might frequent to. Again, since you’ll be only be paying a measly 100 bucks for an hour of service, please don’t expect this place to be anything close to Spa at Cebu or somewhere fancy.
When I went there, the place was clean, a bit too dark and peaceful with soft spa music playing in the background. It was after lunchtime so the place was not that crowded or noisy yet.
Here’s a snapshot of my cubicle before we started the session. I had to use flash on my camera because it was a little dark inside. There is only a small light illuminating the entire cubicle so I can see my way inside.
My spa attendant started with a Shiatsu massage by applying dry and firm pressure on my back using her palm, fingers, thumb and knuckles. For those who haven’t tried Shiatsu massage ever, it can be a little intensive but not overpowering. It can be slightly uncomfortable but the feel-good pain can release negative energies stored inside your body.
I was really pleased with how she glazed the right amount of oil, then gently kneaded my entire body, including my legs, feet, arms, neck and head.
When she gently pulled a huge mass of my hair and light scratched my scalp towards the end, I was lost and maybe snoozed for a bit. Is it me or there’s something deeply relaxing when someone scratches your head?
Final Thoughts
While the place itself is really nothing more than an ordinary spa with minimal amenities to boast of, it compensates itself by providing a premium service that their customers deserve.
For the price I paid, I was satisfied with my spa attendant’s rejuvenating and professional service that you might come to expect from mid to high-end spas. If you’re a smart spa goer, you know that you don’t have to go after the big guys for the same type of service. You can get equally pleasant service even from underrated spas like El Grande Spa.
I also like the fact that is accessible by public or private transportation and ideally located between SM and Ayala Center so it is fairly easy to locate this place.
